For most of us we don’t think to much about the security on our mobile phones. If you’re on a PC however, you more than likely have an anti-virus software that helps protect you so why wouldn’t you worry about your mobile device?
Earlier this month there was a huge flaw found in chips, as reported by CBC here, that would allow hackers easy access to your data and personal information. This flaw was found in most computers as well as cell phones. Most protection software programs have been getting patches out to help protect from this flaw as well as cell phone carriers updating their patches.
For those that know me, you know I’m a huge fan of BlackBerry phones and the security that they provide. With the DTek software I know my phone is protected as well as the monthly security patch updates that they provide.
When you’re posting to social and adding new apps, mostly from your Android smartphones that aren’t a BlackBerry handset you are opening yourself up to a potential hack….
How can you protect yourself without buying a new phone?
There are a few ways that you can protect yourself. The first and easiest thing you can do is make sure that you have a different password for all your social networks and make sure you have a strong password. Something that has a combination of letters, both upper and lower case, numbers and symbols. There are multiple password keeper apps out there that allow you to store passwords and will help keep them safe, so you don’t have to constantly remember them…I know I can’t remember all of my passwords.
Also, there are multiple apps as well such as Norton, McAfee and Kasperaky to name a few that will also help secure your phone, but the number one thing is to make sure your Security Patch is updated to the latest version. If your phone has the capability to run the DTek app, that’s something I highly recommend as well. Stay safe while posting everyone and if you have any questions, as always…
