As a social media manager and an entrepreneur, I’ve found having a morning routine is key to having a successful and productive day.
Now I know not everyone is a morning person and that’s ok but ever since I can remember, I’ve been up very early in the morning. The last 5 or so years, I’ve been consistent at getting up at 5am. My routine is something that I started years ago and have tweaked over time.
Every time I tweak my routine, it helps me through the day to both learn, grow and get healthier. When I first started, it was just a couple of things that I did and wasn’t always consistent with. Now that, my ToDoist app has become such a huge part of my daily routine I started a project and called it “morning routineâ€.
This way, I have reoccurring tasks each day that will remind me of what needs to get done and at what time.
Now for the fun part, my routine:
I wake up at 5am every morning and hyper hydrate. What that means is, I have a glass of water next to my bed and as soon as I wake up, I chug the entire glass. Why do this? It will hydrate me in the morning as you get dehydrated over night sleeping. The bonus to this combined with drinking water throughout the day, is I have found I don’t need coffee anymore. I have one glass out of habit and for the fact that I love the taste.
The next thing I will do, is preform a couple breathing exercises from my Fitbit to help myself calm and get into the right frame of mind for the day.
After I finish my breathing exercises, I have recently started to right in a journal and although everyone is different, for me it’s a time to reflect on the previous day and set myself up with goals for the day. It’s just another way to hold myself accountable.
The one thing that has been inconsistent and I do need to work on making it apart of my routine daily, is yoga. This is something that I want and need to do as I get older to help with flexibility but it’s something that I put off more than I do.
The last thing I do before I start my day is read for an hour. Now, I will read during the day or in the evening if I feel like it but the main time for me to read is in the morning. This is the time of day that I retain more information and it helps me through out the day.
