Hey, it's been awhile! TikTok ban? Meta news? Let's chat about it!
Happy New Year everyone and I know I said some time ago that I would make these a monthly occurrence, I sadly started to slip around last September.
Well it’s a new year, I’ve tweaked my system for planning these and incorporated what I use to make weekly YouTube videos, so getting one of these emails out once a month will be a breeze….I hope.
That said, holy cow is there a lot going on in the world of social media and these first two topics are a dozy! TikTok getting banned in the US??? Meta now wants to get rid of fact checking? Let’s chat about it!
Meta’s Fact-Checking Shift: A Cause for Concern?
Meta’s recent decision to end its third-party fact-checking program in the U.S. and switch to a Community Notes system raises important questions about the future of accurate information on its platforms. While Meta frames this as a move to support free expression, it may make it harder to separate facts from opinions—and even allow harmful content to spread more easily. Fact-checking wasn’t perfect, but it helped slow the spread of misinformation. By replacing it with a system run by users, Meta risks creating an environment where opinions, even hateful ones, can be mistaken for facts.
This change mirrors what’s happening on X (formerly Twitter), where community moderation has blurred the lines between healthy discussion and harmful content. Meta’s decision could have similar consequences, giving dangerous ideas more room to grow under the guise of promoting “different viewpoints.” Free speech is crucial, but without clear ways to stop misinformation and hate speech, the difference between fact and fiction may become harder to see.
What do you think about Meta’s decision? Is this a step forward for free expression, or does it create more risks than rewards? Let me know your thoughts!
TikTok Banned in the US? Here’s What You Should Do Next!
If you’ve been building your brand on TikTok, the news of a potential ban might feel overwhelming.
We’ve been through a few “TikTok ban scares” already, but this one I think is real. And while we can’t control what happens next, we can take steps to repurpose the content we’ve worked so hard to create.
Here’s a quick plan to repurpose those videos if you haven’t already downloaded them or created them off app:
1️⃣ Download your TikToks using a free tool like SnapTik (no watermark, thank me later).
2️⃣ Repurpose your content on these platforms: -Instagram Reels -YouTube Shorts (3 Minute Shorts are FINALLY here) -Threads -Facebook Stories
3️⃣ Start building an email list – because no algorithm can take that away from you. (And for me, start getting back into sending you emails, I know I’ve been slacking)
Yes, it’s scary when a platform you love might disappear. But the good news? The content you’ve created doesn’t have to go to waste. This could be the perfect time to diversify and grow on other platforms.
What’s your next move if TikTok gets banned? Let me know, or if you need help with a repurposing strategy, email me!
Start the New Year Strong: The Power of Goal Setting
We’re only a few days into the new year, but that doesn’t mean you’ve missed the opportunity to start planning and setting your goals for 2025.
Setting goals gives you a clear direction and turns your aspirations into actionable steps. Without a plan, those big dreams can feel overwhelming or get lost in the day-to-day grind. By starting now, you’re giving yourself the gift of clarity and focus before the year even begins. Whether it’s growing your business, improving your health, or pursuing personal growth, the key is to make your goals specific and measurable so you can track your progress.
But here’s the secret to staying on top of those goals: regular check-ins. By breaking your yearly goals into quarterly, monthly, and weekly milestones, you can stay aligned with your vision and pivot when necessary. A quarterly review helps you see the big picture and reassess priorities. Monthly check-ins allow you to focus on immediate progress, and weekly reviews keep you on track with daily actions. This system isn’t just about accountability—it’s about building a rhythm that keeps you connected to your dreams all year long. Ready to get started?
