From Stories to Frameworks!

My District Manager sat there at his desk, me on the other side in shock as he avoided eye contact and read off a script he had prepared. I can’t remember what it said, I just knew that I was being fired.

I had no opportunity to state my case, no chance to get my briefcase and show the stats that I knew my DM already knew, to show him how well the store was doing.

That was it, I was fired. He never once made eye contact and as soon as he finished the script, he walked right out and let the head of Human Resources talk to me.

I will give this gentleman some credit as he tried to explain the situation and although refused to talk about me being assaulted and how they didn’t deal with that, they did set me up with a career coach and of course covered their own ass and gave me a “golden handshake”.

I went home, having a lot of free time on my hands and just sat there…in absolute silence for the rest of the night.

My phone was blowing up with texts, emails, calls and social media messages but I ignored them all. I just sat there in absolute silence.

I was on the couch, in the corner of the living room and as the day went on, it got darker without a single light on in the house, I still sat there.

The days went by and even a few weeks. After 16 years of putting my heart and soul into this company I needed a well deserved break. Working some weeks close to 70 and even 80 hours a week both at the store and from home, I needed some me time.

When I look back at that time, I had no idea how much I was actually learning but it was such a game changer in the way I have created and used/taught my frameworks now.

Last week I talked about the phases of finding your voice and providing value to your audience. I talked about the growth stage and now I want to continue with that and talk about the contribution phases.

One of the biggest parts to the reporter phase is taking in everything you have learned and as you’re doing that you can start to generate ideas about how you will want to create your frameworks.

As you move past the growth phase it’s now time to take what you learned and start to create your own frameworks.

How do you do that?

Let’s take a look at one of Russell Bronson’s frameworks, the Perfect Webinar. This is something I absolutely love using and if you pay attention, I’ve used it in a lot of what I do.

The term “perfect webinar” is a little miss leading as it’s not just meant for webinars. It’s a way to train and give speeches all the same and is best used if you have an offer for your audience.

For Russell, his frameworks are all done as doodles. This was a way for him to easily reference and bring it up from memory. Like him, I have a folder in my Evernote similar to his way of doing it with a binder and that has my own frameworks that I have mapped out as well. Not to mention the binder I have of all his frameworks as reference.

The more you take away from what you have learned in your reporter phase the easier it is to start creating your own frameworks from what you have learned and then take them out, test them out and use them to provide value to your audience.

The two books I have been talking about since the beginning of the year show you everything you need to know and from there you can start creating your own.
