Your Personal Brand Is The New Funnel

Why I Took The Weekend Off (And Why You Should Too)

As I write this, it is just before American Thanksgiving, or as my Uncle coined it, “National Holiday.”

It’s a massive tradition for us. We hang out, enjoy some “beverages”, eat way too much food, and watch the Detroit Lions play (this year against Green Bay….CRAP!!!).

On top of that, my nephew is coming into town for a hockey tournament with games in Belle River and Windsor.

Because there is nothing I love more than watching him out on the ice, I decided to take the entire weekend off.

I’m sharing this because recently I wrote about getting overwhelmed. The only reason I can enjoy this “National Holiday” guilt-free is because I planned my weeks and days well in advance.

If you have a project coming up, get it started early. That preparation is what buys you your freedom.

Now, let’s get into what I’ve been learning this week.

Your Personal Brand IS The Sales Funnel

I recently saw a TikTok from Gary Vee where he made a bold statement: “Your personal brand is now your funnel.”

Now, don’t get me wrong. I have learned so much from Russell Brunson about building funnels and using them to grow my business as well as my email list.

Those strategies are still brilliant. But Gary Vee makes a really good point.

As people flock to TikTok, Reels, and Shorts, they are building massive communities without fancy URLs or complex landing pages.

They aren’t running ads to a webpage with a crazy sales letter; they are just being themselves, talking about what they love, and telling people where to click.

In 2025 and heading into 2026, authenticity converts better than complexity.

Just Start (Nobody Is Watching Anyway)

I saw a video from Ali Abdaal recently answering a follower who asked: “How do I start a YouTube channel if I’m afraid of what people will think?”

This resonated with me because I was petrified when I started, hell I still am!

I thought people would make fun of my bad editing, poor lighting, and speaking skills. But eventually, I just said, “Screw it,” and started.

Here is the truth: For the first little while, nobody is going to watch your videos. And that is actually a good thing.

I have about 1,300 followers on YouTube right now. I am grateful for them, but I view this as my “training ground.” I’m still learning how to script, how to light a scene, and how to speak to a in front of the camera.

If you want to start, just start. Use the quiet days to learn.

The Power of The "Pre-Plan"

Going back to my weekend off, this is a strategy you need to implement.

I realized that the reason I used to get caught up and overwhelmed was a lack of foresight.

Now, I look at the calendar weeks ahead. I knew the hockey tournament was coming, so I batched my work beforehand.

Don’t let life surprise you. Whether it’s a holiday or a family visit, build your work schedule around your life, not the other way around.

Are you ready to plan your next weekend off?
