Why your desk is draining you (and how to fix it by Monday)

The Entrepreneur’s Secret Weapon: Movement

As entrepreneurs, we often treat our businesses like high-performance machines while treating our bodies like an afterthought. We sit, we stare, and we wonder why the “midday crash” hits so hard. Two years ago, I hit a wall, I was tired, my back was constantly sore, and the COVID weight was catching up.

I had to make a change. From early morning 5:30 AM walks to mastering the pomodoro technique, I discovered that the secret to getting more done isn’t working longer, it’s moving more. This week, I’m breaking down how to reclaim your energy and your productivity through movement.

The 5:30 AM Momentum

Success often starts before the rest of the world is awake. Whether it’s a run club or a steady 8 km walk with an audiobook, getting out the door early sets the tone for the day. It’s not just about the calories; it’s about being at your desk by 8:00 AM feeling rejuvenated rather than sluggish. That said, early mornings aren’t for everyone and no one has the same schedule, this is just what works for me. You need to find what works for you.

Mastering the Pomodoro Technique

Sitting at a screen all day is a productivity killer. By working in 25-minute blocks with absolutely no notifications, you create a vacuum of deep work. The magic, however, happens in the 5-minute gap. Physically getting up and moving away from the screen prevents the mental burnout that usually leads to a wasted afternoon.

The Movement Cure for the Midday Crash

We’ve all felt that afternoon slump where motivation vanishes. Instead of reaching for a third coffee, try a “long break” strategy. After a few cycles of the pomodoro technique, take 20 to 40 minutes for a brisk walk around the block or some stretching. You’ll find the day goes by faster, but your output actually increases.

I have a challenge for you starting this Monday: Implement the Pomodoro technique for one full week. Set that 25-minute timer, take your 5-minute movement breaks, and go for that longer walk mid-afternoon.

Once you’ve finished the week, reply to this email. I want to hear exactly how much more you got done and how your body feels. Let’s stop sitting and start scaling.

This Week's Quote

"All truly great thoughts are conceived while walking."
