Why I gamify my to-do list (and you should too)
Can you believe it’s already the halfway point of August?
It’s been an awesome summer already, and I’m just about to head out of town for the week, the last “Summer Vacation” trip to see my girlfriend and head out camping. It took some planning ahead to make sure everything is ready and caught up but I got it all done.
Are you heading out for one last trip before all the kids head back to school?
Mindset
As entrepreneurs, it’s inevitable that at some point in your journey, you’ll encounter impostor syndrome.
This is completely normal and happens to all of us. Recently, I had a conversation with a friend who was experiencing self-doubt. We discussed how I maintain a positive mindset.
Aside from using my daily Notion planning hub, I stand in front of the mirror every morning after my walk and recite three affirmations for the day.
This may seem cheesy, but this practice helps me combat self-doubt and builds confidence, making it easier to fend off impostor syndrome when it creeps in.
Gamify What You Do
Who doesn’t enjoy competition? Whether in sports or against ourselves. The cool part, this can be applied to both health and work.
I use the Samsung Health app to gamify my morning walks and workouts. The app awards points for achieving goals like 10,000 steps a day, logging water intake, or checking stress levels. These points help me level up, providing motivation to stay active.
For work, I use Todoist, which has what they call, “Karma Points” for completing tasks.
If tasks remain undone, points are lost. This system is a great indicator of productivity and helps me stay on track. I’ve been at the “enlightened” level for years, but I still accumulate points to maintain productivity.
Do you gamify your tasks?
Planning Ahead
As we approach the end of the year, it’s a good time to plan ahead.
I use my Notion Planning Hub to structure my days, weeks, months, and even the entire year. The hub includes daily planning with affirmations, task lists using the “Eat the Frog” and “Highlight” methods, and prompts to celebrate wins and reflect on areas for improvement. Weekly, monthly, and quarterly reviews help me stay on track with my goals.
