Something New!

If you have visited our Facebook page recently you have noticed our new cover photo isn’t a photo, it’s a video. If you have been to our website recently you have noticed it’s completely different then it was when we started. Change is good and that’s what we are doing right now. We have been working very hard to redesign our look and website to make it more appealing and have a much better flow for everyone.

Through networking we had the opportunity to meet and start to work with Anthony from Serenade Production Sudio. Anthony is a great guy and very professional, working with him has been amazing. After meeting him we had a chance to sit down and discuss our goals and where we want to go. Through that conversation and taking just the cover photo we had of our lightbulbs, he came up with a concept for our 30 second video.

The flow and look of the video is perfect and we absolutely love it. He took just a simple picture and ran with it. We can’t thank him enough and if you need a video to help promote your company, your event or just want a cool cover video for your own Facebook page get in touch with him. I can promise you will not be disappointed.

We have also been working with a long-time friend of over 30 years, Ian from Red Eye Designs to help us with our logos and making them look amazing. If you’re looking for any type of graphic design please check out Ian’s Facebook page to see all of his amazing work! Get in touch with him he’ll be happy to help you.

If you want to know more about the changes we are working on and want a video done for yourself or something designed, let’s have a conversation on how we can help you.

#ItCanWait

All to often in the news we are reading more and more about MVA’s (Motor Vehicle Accidents) involving people texting and driving. If you look at our Facebook post from yesterday (July 16, 2017) you will see a video that starts off funny with people walking and texting. You see people falling and tripping all over the place as they are to involved in their phones. Now, watch that to the very end and you see how real it can get. The end of the video starts out by telling us, people can’t even walk and text so why would we text and drive?

I will be honest, before I bought the car I currently have in 2012 that has Bluetooth, I was bad for the occasional text. Now that I have Bluetooth and with phones being able to operate with voice I only now answer calls in the car via Bluetooth. I will not text anymore and will wait till I am out of the car to respond. I don’t expect anyone to answer me that very second so I would hope people would expect me to be safe and respond when I am able to.

I encourage you to have a conversation with me to discuss safe options to avoid texting and driving or just hide that phone in your glove box till you are out of the car.

Please check out the video we posted yesterday on our Facebook Page as a reminder that #ItCanWait

Making an Impact

Are you passionate about your city? Do you want to make an impact in Windsor like I do?

On June 28th I had an amazing opportunity to speak to a packed Walkerville Theater with 8 other amazing and influential speakers about how great our city is and about making an impact. Cierra Bray from CGal Media and YQG Talks set out to make an impact and create something very special in Windsor. She wanted to showcase people that are truly doing amazing things for our city.

This was her second event of the monthly YQG Talks. A TED Talks type of event geared specifically for Windsor and both events were a huge success. I’m not going to lie, the thought of being up on stage, with the light on me and talking to a packed theater was terrifying.

I got up there and just started to talk about the city I love and why I will never leave here. Getting out of my comfort zone and speaking at YQG Talks was one of the best experiences I have done and so happy I did.

I can’t thank Cierra enough for putting these events on and I encourage all of you to attend the next event and the ones to follow, you won’t be disappointed.

Click the link below and see a clip of all of us speaking and I want to hear about why you make an impact in YQG!

Back From Vacation

In last weeks post we talked about getting away on vacation and leaving our work behind to enjoy our time away. Now that vacation is over, it’s time to get back and ready to own the week again!

Leaving on a 4-day weekend and having very little access to a cell phone and no other electronics with me there was absolutely no work being done. I will say I felt very guilty the first day, thinking I should be doing something but that quickly faded. Being with great friends, enjoying the weather, the sun and cottage life I had a chance to read a lot and enjoy the company of friends.

There was a lot of time to reflect and think sitting by the fire late at night and that gave me some great ideas on where we are going to go in the future.

I want to know, after you get back from vacation and head to the office or workplace the following day after returning, do you feel recharged and ready to own the new work week or are you tired and wish you were back on vacation?

Let us know how you feel about being back and let’s have a conversation!

Do you work while away?

Happy Monday everyone! I hope everyone is having a great and productive day! In the office, this morning and hard at work setting up this week and next as I will be on vacation starting Thursday night. It’s time for a little break from the office and time to get to the cottage for some much-needed relaxation.

I thought long and hard last week on what I should do about being away from the desk and considered pricing for a USB stick that will provide me with internet access while at the cottage. I am always up early and my thought was, get up really early, make a coffee and sit out in the backyard of the cottage and work for a few hours each morning so I don’t miss anything.

After a lot of thought and some coaching from friends I have decided to not bring my laptop and focus on enjoying my time away and just taking the time to relax. For me this will be hard but I am doubling my efforts this week so that all my clients are taken care of while I am gone.

When you go away on vacation, do you bring your laptop and work while you’re gone? Do you leave everything behind and just focus on having an enjoyable time? Let us know and let’s have a conversation on how you get away form the office.

Monday!

A lot of people see Monday as the day after the weekend, the end of all the fun you had the previous 2 days and back to the grind at work. You’re tired and don’t want to get up to the alarm and head to the office.

We see things a lot differently here at Russtek. Monday is the start of a new week, it’s a time to set new goals and get out and crush those goals.

It wasn’t always like that, there were times before Russtek started that I felt just that, there was not enough coffee in the city to get me through the day and as Monday started I couldn’t wait till the weekend already. Once Friday came along, the first thing out of my mouth was T.G.I.F!!!

Now, everyday feels like that. It’s a normal day to get out and own it, crush it and take on a new challenge. That for me is the best part about being an entrepreneur.

My challenge to you is to look at Monday a little differently, see it as the start of a fresh new week. We want to hear how you look at Monday and what you plan on doing to crush your goals this week!

What Mobile OS do you use?

I could go into all the chooses for hardware but you will be here all day reading this and no one wants that so we will focus on just the OS.

After the downward spiral from BlackBerry there have been several major companies leaving and switching to Apple as a company phone. For a company that has all Mac computers this is a great idea because there is no company that does connectivity between devices like Apple. Many have tried and have some decent solutions but nothing I have found has matched Apple.

For a home user Apple is great for people that like multimedia and a secure phone. The camera, and editing software apple has is also unmatched. If you’re looking for a phone just to play with and download as many apps as you want then Android is great.

Android OS is the most customizable OS out there and for the tech savvy users you can dual boot your phone with another OS such as Lynux. When it comes to the Android OS however you have a pick of phones that you can choose from and now even BlackBerry has stopped doing its own OS and modified the Android OS to be more secure.

Myself, having used an old Palm OS called webOS, then moving to BlackBerry OS then to BlackBerry 10 OS and most recently to Android I have had my fare share of experience in devices and OS’s.

Using now a BlackBerry phone with a secured Android OS I can’t see myself going to any other OS. With it’s customization, security and the BlackBerry features from BlackBerry 10 to make it one of the most productive phones I have used it’s an all-around workhorse.

Lets us know, what phone do you use? What do you like about it the most?

Networking

You’re sitting down wondering what to do with your life and then all the sudden that light blub goes off on the top of your head…see what I did there? You’re tired of have that employee mindset and what to do something that’s your own. You want to be your own boss.

You start doing some research, you come up with a name for your company, your logo and you’ve got your business plan. Ok, you’re ready to go…now what? That’s exactly where I was a short while ago. How can I get this idea off the ground and get clients or customers? Well the best thing I did was get myself out there and network.

It started with one event that was more of a social setting. Have a good, local craft beer and chat with business people from Windsor and exchange business cards. Very successful 2 hours having fun meeting new people. Now what do you do with all these business cards that you just collected? Fire off some emails reintroducing yourself to everyone you met and tell them one more time your idea and what you want to do.

This is exactly what I did and from just knowing about this one single event I have grown my network and now know about networking events almost nightly.

Just one simple event and saying hi to someone can be a world of change for you. It sure was for me! Meeting so may like minded people that are passionate and want everyone local to succeed and grow. It takes just a small amount of your time, maybe a drink and a good smile.

So, if you’re out and about at one of the many networking events around the Windsor area, come up to me and say hi. Let’s see how we can help each other grow!

Time Management

For a lot of entrepreneurs starting out, your only option is working form home until you have the cash flow to work from an office. This is a great way to get your business up and running and save some money. You are focused, you are motivated…time to get to work and be productive!!!

But wait, you missed that one show you wanted to watch last night. Ok, just one show then I’ll get to work. You are your own boss so who cares right? Now you see that there is some dust on the floor. Ok, just a quick sweep, wash the floors and maybe dust a little. Then back to work for sure this time, no more procrastinating.

Working from home has some great benefits but some major downfalls as well. It’s hard to be productive with so many distractions around. How did I manage to stay productive and not get distracted while working from my home office?

It’s not easy and has challenges but the best way to do this is set a schedule and follow it. Set your alarm for whatever time you did before when you were in school or went to work. No matter what, I set my alarm for 6am. Get up, get showered and dress for success every day. Even though you’re in your home office and no one will see you. Why does that matter? Ask yourself, are you more productive in your sweats or PJ’s or in good clothes that you would wear to the office?

I have set a schedule to work uninterrupted from my desk from 8am to 11am then take a lunch. This lunch is your time. I take that time to eat, clean or do whatever it is that I need to but I make sure I am back at the desk for 1pm. Then work uninterrupted till dinner time.

I understand things come up, they always do but think of being at your desk as you are at an actual office. If you must leave for a meeting or a networking event during the day, make sure you set that time aside and work later in the evening.

If you set your mind to it, you will be able to stay motivated and work from home and be as productive as you would be in an office setting.

Respect

For those of you that follow Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s social media channels you know he loves to motivate and push people to do better and work harder. From his days in WWE to his career now in movies he is known for being one of the hardest workers around. If you have read his book you know that he was in trouble as a teen and during his football career in the CFL he was very poor.

He knew he could do better and be better. Having family in the wrestling world he got his shot. He started to wrestle and at the start of his career the owner of the WWE Vince McMahon didn’t think he would last and it wasn’t what he wanted for his show and “The Rock” was almost cut and let go from the company.

Dwayne’s work ethic was just as good back then and he worked hard to turn his wrestling career around and because of that work ethic he became the superstar that he is today.

Recently on his Instagram account Dwayne posted a quote, “Blood, Sweat, Respect. The first two you give. The last one you earn.” The second I saw this I fell in love with it. This is something I want to live by everyday, both personal and professional. Put in the work day in and day out and the respect will come.

What is your favorite quote? What is a moto that you live by? Or are you like us and are a fan of The Rock and love his quote? Tell us what you think and let’s strike up a conversation.
